Overview

The Director of Optical Operations is responsible for leading the development and execution of the strategic and tactical goals of AVP’s Optical Operations. This role has primary accountability for: 1) achieving financial and operational growth objectives for Optical Operations, 2) enhancing patient care experiences through our Optical Shops and 3) supporting operational and clinical teams to increase Optical revenue across the platform. This leader proactively designs innovative approaches to assist physicians and clinical teams to achieve Optical goals. They utilize data via Power BI to identify high priorities and immediately implement measurable improvement strategies with each AVP practice. They also partner closely with the Regional Vice Presidents, IT, and other departmental leaders to support and maximize Optical utilization.  

Responsibilities

  1. Develops Optical strategies and tactics for each region and practice, understanding the resources needed to train, develop, and measure progress to achieve monthly and quarterly goals.
  2. Proactively evaluates Optical Capture rate data to identify highest priority location and physicians to focus attention and efforts.
  3. Partners with Regional VPs, and the Vice Chair of Optometry to conduct detailed assessments at the practice level on resources needs to achieve Optical goals (e.g. implementing formal sales training, process improvement, physician engagement, patient education etc.).
  4. Maintains current workplan of high priority locations/physicians and specific improvement tactics being implemented to present to senior operational, medical, and executive leadership regularly.
  5. Understands and can effectively perform all duties encompassing Optical Operational roles.
  6. Trains, coaches and mentors employees to improve performance and enhance skills to increase Optical sales.
  7. Helps foster strong relationships between Optical, Clinic and Provider teams, visits each office as necessary and organizes regular meetings for the Optical management team.
  8. Constantly assesses financial performance to identify areas of opportunity to maintain an emphasis on profitable operations.
  9. Identifies areas of improvement around changes in the industry to increase productivity.
  10. Serves as spokesperson, when necessary, for the department and collaborates closely with IT, Finance, Revenue Cycle Management, etc. to assess operational needs.
  11. Works on developing in-depth knowledge of the area workplace, including attendance at conferences and participates in on-going continuing education.
  12. Works in conjunction with operational and financial leaders to negotiate and develop relationships with vendors in regards to Optical operational opportunities.
  13. Provides oversight and recommendations for the Optical operational budget and Optician bonuses in partnership with the Regional Vice President.
  14. Performs any and all duties as reasonably assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience working in the optical field.
  • If certified, maintain certification in ABO and NCLE.
  • If licensed, maintain a State License.
  • Effective supervisory skills.
  • Working knowledge of inventory management, eyewear sales, and lens options.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Personable; empathetic with patient’s and employee's needs and concerns.
  • Well- organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Ability to motivate and train a professional staff.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of all aspects related to operations of a modern optical dispensary.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting principles.
