Overview

The Director of RCA and Retina Services oversees managers and is responsible for leading and directing the practice operations for Retinal Consultants of Arizona (RCA) and has oversight for retina operations support for the Phoenix Metro BDP and SEC retina teams.  This role directly reports to the Regional Vice President and works closely with that person to ensure that the organization is managed and performing efficiently and effectively. The Director of RCA and Retina Services has a passion for and strong understanding of retina services.  They possess an exceptional capacity for managing and leading people with a keen ability to develop strong and flexible teams.


This position oversees RCA and the retina services in Phoenix Metro by developing and optimizing workflows to enhance operational efficiency, while consistently making sound financial decisions to drive business growth and sustainability.  Maintains daily operations, implements strategies as identified by the leadership team, collaborates with physician partners and coordinates the use of appropriate resources.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the clinic line of service for efficiency and quality of patient encounters in assigned territory
  • Responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the daily operations by driving operational excellence throughout RCA.
  • Coordinates with Team Leads from BDP and SEC retina teams to ensure workflows are adhered to and day-to-day operations run smoothly
  • Responsible for the practice’s profitability:  analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs) while also reviewing financial performance and other management information reports
  • Consistently reviews operational and financial reports outlining business performance and makes the appropriate changes and recommendations
  • Assists in developing a business plan for the practice and/or territory in conjunction with the Regional Leadership Team
  • Works directly with providers to resolve conflicts, issues, or questions in order to provide the best quality outcomes
  • Partners with providers to develop plans and implement short-term and long-term strategies to meet performance goals
  • Develops strategies in coordination with peers and the RVP to improve financial results
  • Approves all clinic new hires, transfers and salary increases for personnel
  • Assists in the ongoing development of employee training programs to include creating written workflows
  • Monitors clinic schedules within assigned practice and/or territory; makes recommendations when a provider or location is underutilized
  • Supports setting goals for direct reports that are in alignment with the company’s strategic goals
  • Assists in analyzing the cost/benefit ratio and feasibility thereof in regards to special situations or opportunities for the territory, e.g. new acquisitions, new locations, new providers, location utilization, staffing utilization, etc. 
  • Responsible for planning and preparing territory activities
  • Trains, coaches and mentors direct reports; fosters development of strong relationships between direct reports and providers
  • Assists Clinic Managers and Team Leads with developing plans for community outreach, building and maintaining referring doctor relationships, and other efforts to increase growth
  • Assists in finding resolution of problems and keeps line of communication open with Managers, Team Leads, and staff to ensure high productivity
  • Serves on committees and assists with the development of procedures and policies
  • Collaborates with Nurse Director(s) and Sr. Director of Quality and Corporate Compliance to ensure assigned territory abides by all regulatory guidelines and standards
  • Encourages and fosters a team-oriented environment and follows company guidelines and policies
  • Performs additional duties as reasonably needed

Qualifications

  • REQUIRED: A minimum of 5 years of healthcare management 
  • REQUIRED: Solid experience with retina and ophthalmology practice operations
  • Ability to work cooperatively with physicians and management teams
  • High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to healthcare or business administration is strongly preferred
  • Physician relationship experience preferred
  • Strong financial aptitude and computer skills
  • Experience with a fully-integrated medical office software package is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented, reliable, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions independently
  • Proven ability to delegate and supervise a team
