Overview

The Ophthalmic Procedure Technician is responsible for assisting and supporting various functions of a clinic operation that includes prepping, logging and drawing up medications for clinic procedures, educating patients and obtaining their consents for treatment, supporting the physician during a procedure, and ensuring that relevant documentation is completed and all dispensed medication are reconciled in various systems and EHR. 

Responsibilities

  • Preps, logs, and draws up medications for procedures
  • Assists with all clinical procedures such as injections and lasers
  • Documents all relevant procedures information into EHR per workflow
  • Ensures proper sanitation, cleaning and sterilization of rooms and instruments
  • Conducts diagnostic testing such as OCTs to improve clinic flow
  • Assists with supplies and medication stock-up such as monitoring inventory, and counting and sorting medication for satellite locations in coordination with the Scribe and Clinic Manager (gauze, eye wash, eye drops, applicator, drapes)
  • Serves as back-up Scribe to the Physician
  • Provides back-up support to other technicians when assigned
  • Interacts with patients, staff, and providers in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Coordinates with referral and benefit teams to ensure procedures are approved per insurance
  • Determines patient flow and placement in clinic lanes
  • Performs various duties related to medication reconciliation such as Arbimed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year back-office experience in healthcareSkills and Abilities:
  • Must be computer literate
  • Knowledge of HIPAA
  • Attention to detail and personal organization
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend written policies and documents
  • Must have consistent, predictable and reliable attendance
