Overview

The Associate General Counsel provides legal guidance and support on a broad range of organizational matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements. This role conducts legal research, interprets laws and regulations, and represents the organization in legal proceedings when necessary. Working under general supervision, the Associate General Counsel handles moderately complex legal issues, escalating more complex matters as appropriate. The role may also include coaching and mentoring junior staff. A Juris Doctor (JD) and a minimum of 2–4 years of relevant legal experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts and agreements
  • Assist with managing Company contracting workflows and policy management processes
  • Act as a key advisor and offer support in litigation and other proceedings
  • Actively participate in the Company’s risk management committee
  • Respond to subpoenas and manage the associated information-gathering process
  • Advise on regulatory issues and risk management strategies
  • Work closely with Finance team on reserves and other risk assessment activities
  • Work closely with risk management team and carriers on claims assessment, liability policies, reinsurance and excess coverage and contract interpretation.
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on relevant legal developments
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on strategy and direction and manage budgets and invoicing process
  • Advise various Company divisions/departments concerning healthcare and corporate issues including statutory and regulatory compliance, litigation avoidance, and prospective corrective action
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • The position requires a full-time work schedule. Full-time is defined as working at least 40 hours per week, plus any additional hours as requested or as needed to meet business requirements

Qualifications

  • REQUIRED:  Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • REQUIRED:  Membership in good standing with a state bar association
  • REQUIRED:  A minimum of 2+ years of legal practice experience
  • REQUIRED:  Experience in litigation and employment law
  • Understanding of healthcare regulatory compliance matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • A strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional analytical and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
