Overview

The Physician Outreach Liaison Manager compliantly leads strategic outreach initiatives to strengthen professional relationships between our eye-care providers and the broader medical community. This role is responsible for managing a team of liaisons, developing relationship-building strategies, improving relationships with outside providers, analyzing referral trends, and ensuring smooth communication between referring offices and internal clinics. Success in this role is defined by increased specialty referrals, physician engagement, completion of compliance assessments with the Compliance Office, and measurable growth in patient volume across all service lines.  Another key aspect of this role is continuous adherence to AVP Compliance Program and applicable compliance parameters issued by the Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities

Relationship Development & Referral Growth

  • Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with referring physicians, optometrists, and medical practices.
  • Lead strategic visit planning for liaison team to ensure high-value sales outreach efforts.
  • Represent the organization at professional events, medical meetings, and community engagements.
  • Identify referral barriers, provide sales opportunities and solutions, and provide sales training to meet referral growth targets.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Manage a defined territory or strategic list of accounts while managing, mentoring, and developing physician outreach liaison staff to achieve referral KPIs.
  • Set weekly/monthly/quarterly outreach goals and track performance against growth targets.
  • Conduct routine field ride-alongs and provide structured coaching and feedback.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new liaisons—ensuring strong brand and clinical knowledge.
  • Remain educated on AVP Compliance Parameters and support a focus on compliance with all liaisons, regularly coordinating with the AVP Compliance Office.

Data, Reporting & Market Strategy

  • Analyze referral trends, outreach effectiveness, and competitive activity.
  • Use CRM/data platforms to track visits, lead sources, outreach touches, and referral volume.
  • Build monthly performance reports for leadership, highlighting wins, risks, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with marketing, operations, and AVP leadership to forecast referral needs and identify service gaps by market.

Internal Collaboration

  • Partner closely with surgeons and clinical teams to communicate referral expectations and feedback.
  • Work with marketing to develop outreach materials, campaigns, and physician education assets.
  • Support new provider onboarding and off boarding, location openings, and specialty service line growth initiatives.
  • Regular meetings with the AVP Compliance Office, as scheduled by the Compliance Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, healthcare administration, or related field (preferred).
  • 5-7+ years of healthcare or eye care (preferred) sales experience, physician liaison, or practice-development experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing a field-based team (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of healthcare or eyecare referral pathways and medical office dynamics.
  • Ability to analyze data, set strategy, and drive measurable performance.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable traveling regionally by small aircraft (PHX, Nevada/El Paso & Lubbock TX) -  50–70% field-based presence.
